MSC Giz Cast Video Episode #15 - Ubuntu Start-up Applications

In this episode we take a look at how we can add applications, or programs, to automatically start when we boot up Ubuntu. The one application we will take a look at in this episode is Avant Window Navigator, which we talked about in episode #14.

Remember though that the more things you add to your start up the longer it will take for your computer to reboot, and also for certain applications to conflict with each other. I normally only have the applications that Ubuntu has start up in a default installation.

MSC Giz Cast Video Episode #14 - Avant Window Navigator

In this episode we take a look at a application launcher for your Ubuntu desktop. It is a dock that sits at the bottom of your desktop and you can place your most used applications by just dragging them to the Avant launcher. You can also change the appearance of both the Launcher bar and how the icons interact with your mouse when selected.

Watch episode #14 to see how you can add the Avant Window Navigator to your Ubuntu Desktop.

MSC Giz Cast Episode 13 - Thunderbird with Gnome and Lightening

In this episode we take a look at how we can give a Gnome feeling to the e-mail client Thunderbird. You can do this by using the the Gnome-tb theme. This theme really gives you a Gnome type feel especially if you are using Thunderbird on a Windows machine. I like to use this theme at work as I use a windows based computer and have Thunderbird as my E-Mail client.

The next thing we look at is giving Thunderbird a bit more functionality with an extension called Lightning.  This gives a calendar to manage your daily events. I find this is a great extension that  makes Thunderbird a great choice for a e-mail client.
