MSC Giz Cast Episode 20-Q & A

In this episode we talk more about the up coming release of Gutsy Gibbons. I have decided to install it on one of my computers and run it for a while and see how it goes. As of now the system seems very solid with only a few bugs. I have only used it for a couple of days, but have only come across a few bugs and have had my system lock twice. I was expecting to have some problems as this is a pre- release, and am going to report any hiccups that I come across. Except for these for details it seems that Guts Gibbons will be another very solid release of Ubuntu. Some of the features in this early release of Ubuntu is easier printer install, a desktop search, and also in Firefox they have made it easier to install missing plugins like flash or Java.
In the Q & A section we answer a couple of questions from e-mails.
The first question was regarding spell check in Open Office. If spell check does not appear to be working for you check your language settings. Open up tools>options>then click on language. Make sure that the language that is selected has a spell check mark beside it. There are many languages offered, but only I few have a spell check symbol beside it.
The second question I was asked is weather a prefer Gnome applications to KDE. The best answer I have is that I use the application that best suits the job I am trying to do. Though I primarily us Linux applications I do use the odd Windows app also if it is best suited for the task at hand.

Episode 19-Gutsy Gibbons Tribe 4

In this episode we talk about a few different topics on starting a new Podcast. Since I have been receiving a few e-mails about my news segment and why I have been leaving them out of the MSC Giz Cast episodes. The reason was I wanted to keep the episodes a bit shorter. When replying to the e-mails and why I have left them out I received a few suggestions back from who people really seemed to enjoy the news segments and also when I talked about things other then Ubuntu. It was suggested that I could either have specific episodes that I talked about news or just general topics or better yet I start a new Podcast which would be based on everyday topics and give opinions and discuss them. This seems like a better choice. More to come on this.
We also discuss the new version of Ubuntu called Gutsy Gibbons which will be released in October. I have downloaded the iso image of Tribe 4, which is a alpha version, and have run it off of the live CD. It seems very solid for a alpha version and networks with my other computers where Feisty struggles with talking to my Vista computer. There are some things that hopefully will be addressed and that is how Rhythmbox deletes audio files from an I-Pod. As of now Rhythmbox only deletes the file from the song list, but not actually from the I-Pod. If you want to delete a audio file from your I-Pod you have to go into a different program like Amarok or GTKPod and delete the audio files. If you have tried to delete a file with Rhythmbox you will have to find staled or orphaned tracks with GTKPod or Amarok and delete them. Hopefully this will be addressed before the final release of Gutsy Gibbons.
