Well after a holiday break the MSC Giz Cast is back for 2008. During the break I had received a few e-mails that I thought we would discuss in this episode.
Before that though we discuss the up coming release of Ubuntu called Hardy Heron and that Kubuntu will be release with the new version of the KDE desktop which is version 4 which is updated from version 3.5. Since this is a new version of the desktop it seems that Canonical will not be supporting it initially.
In emails we discuss converting your Christmas pictures using Digikam. Though we had discussed this in a earlier episodes found here. I thought we would discuss it again since some listeners were having problems with it. First off when you install Digikam you also need to install the "kipi-plugins" you will also need to install "mjpeg tools". Finally right click on the kipi-plugins in synaptic and look under recommended install and make sure that imagemagic and graphics magic are installed. After that you should be able to create a DVD of your Pictures. Check out the Digikam episode for more information.
We also discuss a e-mail of a listener having problems with a installation. It seems that the install went fine for his other computers, but he was having a freezing issue with one particular computer. I also had a similar issue with a Acer computer. The way I got the install to work was I used a G-Parted live CD and booted to that. I then Removed all the partitions in the drive including the hidden partition and reformatted the drive. I then was able to get the install to work. Remember though that if you do it this way your recover discs will not work for they look for this hidden partition.
